The $200 stamp is gone, which every headline covered. What none of them covered is what the rest of it costs. Put your real numbers in and see the whole figure, with the tax saving shown as the proportion it actually is.

Defaults are illustrative placeholders, not quoted prices — we never publish prices, because they move weekly. Open the retailer, use today's numbers, and set anything you already own to zero.

What it costs

What's missing from this total

Shipping and any state-level fees. Sales tax. A trust, if you set one up rather than filing as an individual. Suppressor-height sights, which you will want on a pistol. Range fees, and the fact that suppressed shooting is pleasant enough that you will do more of it.

The federal transfer tax is entered as $0 because that is what it has been since 1 January 2026 for suppressors, SBRs, SBSs and AOWs. Machine guns and destructive devices were not included and still carry $200.

The cost that isn't money

Approval time. Removing the financial barrier put a great deal of new demand into the same queue, so the wait — not the price — is now the thing that decides when you get to shoot it. Check current ATF processing times rather than any figure quoted in an article, including this one.
