FN 502 Tactical
.22 LR · 4.6" threaded
Why .22 is the best first suppressed experience
.22 LR has a small powder charge, and standard or subsonic loads keep bullet velocity at or below the speed of sound. Suppressed, that produces some of the quietest shooting you can do. The ammo is cheap, so you'll actually practice.
What the 502 Tactical brings
- Threaded 4.6" barrel. Confirm the pitch on the listing against your can's mount.
- Optics-ready slide. A small red dot makes a suppressed .22 easier to shoot and more fun.
- Full-size handling and controls that feel like a centerfire pistol, which makes it a good trainer.
- The listing shows 10- and 15-round magazines.
Ammo that works
Not every subsonic .22 cycles every semi-auto. Some are loaded light enough that the slide short-strokes. Buy a few boxes of different loads and test:
CCI .22 LR 40gr subsonic LHP
Aguila .22 LR 40gr subsonic SP
Remington .22 LR 40gr subsonic HP

Keep it clean
Rimfire fouling builds up fast in suppressors. A can that comes apart is worth paying for. RimfireAmmo's fouling guide covers the routine.
Other rimfire hosts
If you'd rather suppress a .22 rifle, threaded options include the X-Ring Takedown and SU22. The Kel-Tec P17 is the budget threaded pistol.

Frequently asked questions
Is the FN 502 Tactical threaded?
Yes. It ships with a threaded barrel. Check the listing for the thread pitch and match your can's mount to it.
Will subsonic .22 cycle it?
Some subsonic .22 loads have less energy to cycle semi-autos. Test several loads, since cycling varies by gun and ammo.
Do rimfire suppressors need cleaning?
Yes. Rimfire ammo is dirty and fouls cans quickly. Choose a can you can take apart for cleaning.
Is a .22 suppressor hearing safe?
Suppressed .22 with subsonic ammo is very quiet compared with an unsuppressed gun, but hearing protection is still sensible, especially indoors or in long sessions.
